Catherine Ogilvy-Stuart has been an instructor in the Pilates Method for over 20 years now. She has owned and run South Devon Pilates since 2013, teaching Pilates Matwork and Equipment at her Studio in Central Torquay.
Originally trained as a dancer she first gained a qualification in Matwork with Bodycontrol Pilates in 2000. After a brief spell working for Bodycontrol, she taught group matwork classes and private matwork for 7 years receiving many referrals from osteopaths and physiotherapists. She then trained in Pilates equipment at the Brighton Pilates Studio, taking classes and learning about the atmosphere of an equipment based Studio. In 2005 she took further equipment training/exams with Polestar Pilates in London and consequently set up her own equipment studio in Reigate in Surrey which she ran for 7 years. She is fully insured to teach both matwork and studio equipment and regularly attends workshops, conferences, and courses to keep abreast of new techniques and developments.
In the 1920s, physical trainer Joseph Pilates introduced Pilates into America as a way to help injured athletes and dancers safely return to exercise and maintain their fitness. Since, then, Pilates has been adapted to suit all people. Pilates lengthens and stretches all the major muscle groups in your body in a balanced way. It requires concentration in finding a center point to control your body through movement.
