Jane - Beginners Pilates Matwork Class

After struggling with very bad asthma for many years, feeling stiff and unfit, I decided to give Pilates a try. I spoke to Catherine at the South Devon Pilates studio and told her my concerns. She reassured me that I would be fine, and that she would bear in mind my breathing issues during the classes. I have been going to Catherine's classes for a few months now and love them! Catherine is kind and considerate to individual needs and really conveys so well what each exercise is for and the benefits for each part of the body. After all my worries that I wouldn’t cope with the exercises because of my breathing I have actually found the opposite is true. I feel so much better. The classes have helped so much, in fact I use my inhaler far less now than before, and am beginning to feel stronger and more supple. Thank you Catherine!

Catherine taught me Pilates in her studio from 2006 - 2013. My pilates lessons really helped me after a bad riding accident. Stretching my back muscles and working on my abdominal strength made a big difference to me each week. Catherine also taught me before and after I was pregnant and was able to adjust my lessons safely and appropriately.

"I am a newcomer to organised exercise, although I was a member of a gym for some time before I came to the conclusion that it was doing me more harm than good.
More recently I have developed Parkinson’s and it was recommended that some exercise would help keep the disease at bay. "I do enjoy my Pilates class very much; sometimes I don't feel like it when I first go, but I feel so much better afterwards that I keep turning up! I does really wake the body up, and it is good for those of us who are getting a bit creaky as we age, because its slow enough to work at individual muscles and joints.

Whenever I have had a problem in a particular joint such as a knee or elbow, I mention it to Catherine and she never pushes one to do too much. In that way it is quite personal, but also fun, being with others in a group"

"I first went to see Catherine in 2009. My health was very poor at this time having suffered from long term fatigue and chronic neck and back pain. I was understandably nervous to begin pilates. However I was able to take my lessons at my own pace and thankfully my back is now comfortable and my health is good.
